X-5000.org is a website dedicated to the preservation and long-term restoration of The Milwaukee Road Dynamometer Car called the X-5000. X5 for short.
Current challenges include sealing up the roof so that the interior stays dry. Interior water damage has already happened and work is in progress to prevent further damage. Temporary patches have been sealed into place with ingenuity reminiscent of the Milwaukee Road Shops. Long-term solutions are in planning stages.
The project leader is Warren A. Newhauser, son of Warren R. Newhauser, who worked on the Dynamometer Car from 1967-85. Many of the documents on this site including the X-5000 Details were written by the late Warren R. Newhauser.
