This year railfans will have the opportunity to ride the Dyanamometer car at the Illinois Railway Museum on Sept 14, 15 and 22, 2013, pending successful running gear and air brake inspections, of course. The car is expected to be moved to Yard 3 Labor Day weekend or the weekend after and the inspections then made by Mike Baksic, Head of the Coach Dept. It may be paired behind new operational MILW E9 #37A.
The last time the car ran and was open to the public was in June 2007 after the MRHA convention in nearby Elgin.
Since 2007, much restoration work has been done. The interior is starting to take shape again with many wood-related repairs and the electrical system in now almost fully operational providing a nice ambiance, especially at night.
Each weekend (8/18, 8/25, Labor Day Weekend and 9/8, 9/14, 9/15 – usually Sundays) leading up to and Sept 14-15, we will be working on the car. IRM members will have the opportunity to ride at night on Sept 14, if it runs after the annual barbeque dinner on Sat. night. If you are not yet an IRM member, you can join once you are on the property!
